|Georgioupoli is situated half way between Rethymnon and Chania. The once sleepy fishing village has been transformed into a popular holiday destination over the past 25 years, without losing its original charm and tranquillity. Old eucalyptus trees and the small river that flows into the sea, create a distinctive and unique ambiance in this charming village, which is also the ideal starting point for excursions into western Crete.|
The large choice of restaurants, taverns, cafés and bars provide food and
drink for all tastes. From the bar with subtile music to the lively disco, there
is something to entertain every age group in the evening.|
|There are two sandy beaches available. A small bay with shallow water - ideal for parents with little kids (left side picture) and the main-beach which stretches for miles (right side picture).|
You can rent parasols and sun-beds for a reasonable price there. There are also
several tavernas on the beaches where you can get something to eat and drink.|
(The pictures were taken in the low season, be sure to see more people there in the mid and high season ......! )
The only sweet-water lake, the 'Kournas-Lake' can be found approximately 4 miles from Georgioupoli.
Here you can find three taverns serving taditional greek specialities.|
